This Colchester community radio project has been nominated for national award

Colne Radio’s project Finding Your Voice has been named as a finalist in this year’s Community Radio Awards, which celebrate the excellence of community broadcasting.

Nominated in the category Community Impact Project of the Year, the project is a three-year National Lottery Community funded piece of work delivering skills workshops across north east Essex to people who are underrepresented in the media.

Wendy Bixby, project manager for the Finding Your Voice project, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be recognised on a national level.

“Being nominated and shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Community Impact project of the Year’ category is a testament to the hard work of all our volunteers, trainers, presenters, board members and the support of our amazing community partners, who have enabled us to reach some of the most isolated people in Colchester and Tendring”

Colne Radio CIC, based in Wivenhoe, was established in 2011 with the aim to give communities and organisations from the area a platform to be heard.

Chairperson of the awards, Rebecca Steers, said: “The awards are a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the incredible impact community radio has across the UK. Being nominated is a huge achievement in itself.

“The station, its presenters, and volunteers should be so proud of all that they do for their community and for this nomination and the recognition for all their hard work.”

This year’s awards mark the 10th ceremony and attracted the highest number of entries from across the country, according to the awards team.

The ceremony will take place on October 25 in Bradford, following the National Community Radio Conference, organise by the UK Community Radio Network.
