BBC Celebrity Traitors starts next week with huge stars linked to Essex

Celebrity Traitors sees famous faces battle through a high-stakes game of deception, trust and strategy in the Scottish Highlands.

The new series launches on October 1 at 9.15pm on the BBC, with several Essex-linked contestants in the line-up.

Singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, who has lived in Essex, is among the contestants, alongside broadcaster Maya Jama, who has links to the Essex-London commuter belt.

Comedian Rob Beckett also has Essex ties after growing up in the county and often referencing it in his stand-up routines.

Actor and presenter Ross Kemp has strong Essex ties: he was born in Barking and raised in Rainham, Shenfield and Brentwood.

The Essex links give the county a strong presence in one of the BBC’s biggest entertainment shows this autumn.

The celebrity line-up also includes Stephen Fry, James Blunt, Joe Lycett, Miranda Hart and Michael Sheen.

Contestants must identify the “traitors” among them while avoiding elimination in the show’s tense mix of strategy and suspense.

The series is hosted by Claudia Winkleman, with celebrities competing to win up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.

The first series finale peaked at 15.4 million viewers, according to the BBC.
