Slim Chickens officially opened in Chelmsford on Thursday, June 25, marking the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by players from Broomfield Women’s Football Club, whose kits are sponsored by the restaurant.
The American fast-casual chain celebrated its arrival by offering free chicken tenders to the first 30 customers through the door at noon, and also awarded one diner with free Slim Chickens meals for an entire year.
James Branagh, general manager of Slim Chickens Chelmsford, said: “Opening day has been a huge success and it was fantastic to see so many customers waiting for our doors to open despite the extreme temperatures outside.
“Thankfully our air-conditioned restaurant provided instant relief from the heat.
“There was a real buzz and excitement in the restaurant, with diners experiencing Slim Chickens’ famous Southern hospitality, cooked-to-order chicken, and feel-good food.
“Our Spin the Wheel game was also really popular, with people winning lots of great prizes.
“Slim Chickens is definitely the new talk of the town.”
Located at 9–10 High Street, the restaurant becomes the ninth Slim Chickens site operated by JRK Restaurants, joining branches across the south and east of England.
Founded in Arkansas, Slim Chickens has built a UK following with its hand-breaded, buttermilk-marinated chicken tenders, wings, wraps, and sides including pickles and Texas toast.
The Chelmsford venue offers seating for over 100 diners and aims to deliver a relaxed atmosphere with music, live sports, and dine-in or delivery options through Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Just Eat.
To extend the celebrations, Slim Chickens is handing out 500 Golden Tickets to guests in the days following the launch, with each ticket guaranteeing a prize.
The brand is known for its southern hospitality, cooked-to-order menu, and lively, welcoming environment.
