Another 567 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Essex in the last 24 hours to Sunday (August 8), according to official statistics – down from 599 the previous day.
The figures, published by Public Health England, mean there has now been a total of 183,800 confirmed cases of Covid in the county since the start of the pandemic.
The highest number of new infections were found in Colchester, where 69 positive tests were returned, followed by Southend, which discovered 61 new cases.
At the other end of the scale, Rochford had by far the lowest number of new cases after finding 14.
The Government said a further 39 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 130,321.
Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 155,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
As of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 27,429 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.
Government data up to August 6 shows that of the 86,466,264 Covid jabs given in the UK, 46,036,796 were first doses, and some 39,429,468 were second doses.
