‘Hit and run’ on zebra crossing outside Essex school

A school crossing patrol officer was “knocked to the ground” after being hit by a car on the zebra crossing.

The woman in her 20s had been working as a school crossing patrol officer on Wednesday afternoon (April 14) around 3pm at the junction with Derwent Road, Highwoods, Colchester.

She had been stood on the zebra crossing when she was hit by the small black car.

The woman, who had been wearing high-vis clothing, was knocked to the ground and suffered bruising.

The male driver of the car reportedly stopped initially before driving away in the direction of Severals Lane.

Essex Police are now appealing for any information from witnesses who may be able to help with their enquiries.
