Covid numbers are generally decreasing across the UK, but this doesn’t mean we in Essex should take that as a cue to start mixing with those we shouldn’t.
Unfortunately, according to Essex Police, a “tiny minority” are continuing to break the rules, forcing police to issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) last week.
One was issued to a 40-year-old rulebreaker from Rayleigh who hosted an 18th birthday party for over 15 people, all of whom ran when officers arrived.

FPNs were handed to six men and women from who were attending a baby shower in Grays.
In addition, it seems people are still travelling outside their local area to exercise or to meet members of other households.
People have been fined for driving from London, Sheffield and Manchester to Southend for a day out.
One 32-year-old man, from Hertfordshire, claimed he’d driven to the town to buy baby clothes and a baby monitor from a supermarket.
And a 21-year-old woman was fined after driving from Warwickshire to Chelmsford to visit her boyfriend.

Frustratingly, FPNs were also issued to two young men, aged 21 and 19, who were among around 20 adults and children caught playing basketball on a closed court in Old Heath Recreation Ground, Colchester, last Wednesday (February 24).
Similarly, last Friday (February 19), police had to fine a 65-year-old Harlow man for leaving his home repeatedly despite being required to self-isolate after returning from travelling abroad.
