Drawing with your sewing machine is fun and rewarding. In this one day workshop you will be shown how to prepare your fabric and set up your sewing machine for free motion embroidery. Then, you can start drawing. Once you have explored how to guide your free motion stitching, you will be shown how to create a fabric version of the place you call home. Working from your own photo or from an image provided, you will be shown how to carefully cut fabric pieces to applique your design onto a fabric panel. Then you will use free motion embroidery to outline and add detail to your picture. Once you have finished, the panel will be used as the front of a lined, envelope style cushion. As zips can break and ties can tear, the envelope style is the most durable option because it is easy to get on and off when it needs washing. You will finish the workshop having made a unique, personalised cushion to snuggle up with (or showcase on a chair!) at home.
This is a perfect workshop if you know the basics of using a sewing machine. Don’t be put off by the idea of drawing. Think swirls, curves, doodles and words. Change the colour of thread and think shades, tones and contrasts. Whichever way suits you, after the workshop you’ll know how to set up your machine for lots of fun with free motion sewing.
