Essex crime: Six people injured in ‘disturbance’ at the University of Essex as teenager arrested

Six people have been injured during a ‘disturbance’ at the University of Essex. Essex Police were called to the incident at the campus at Wivenhoe Park, Colchester, shortly after 6pm on Saturday (May 14).

Upon arrival, officers discovered that six people had sustained injuries. It is believed that the injuries are not serious.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident and has been released on bail until June 10. Essex Police are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

A spokesperson at Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of a disturbance on the University of Essex campus at Wivenhoe Park, Colchester at around 6.05pm on Saturday, May 14. Six people had sustained injuries which are not believed to be serious.

“A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and has since been released on bail until June 10. We need anyone who saw anything or has any footage to contact us.”

A spokesperson at the University of Essex said: “We’re very grateful for the speedy response of our Security and Campus Safety team and support of Essex Police in resolving this incident safely. We’re offering support to those affected and helping Essex Police with their investigation.”
