Infection rates across Essex have been dropping for months, thanks to the lockdown and the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination roll-out.
Lockdown rules were relaxed on Monday (March 29), which legalised social meetings of six or less outdoors and restarted outdoor sport for many.
Yesterday (March 30), hundreds flooded to sunspots across the county to enjoy the sunshine thanks to their newfound freedom.
However, the latest figures show that the picture is changing in some parts of the county.
Infection rates track how many Covid-19 cases were recorded over a seven-day period per 100,000 residents in a given area, and are the best way to track if Covid-19 is growing or shrinking on a local level.
The latest data tracks the number of new cases recorded in the week leading up to March 26, and show that in five Essex areas rates have increased when compared to the seven days leading up to March 19.

The most infected area currently is Tendring, which contains towns like Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze.
Infection rates there rose from 39.6 to 67.5, showing a steep increase.
At this stage in the lockdown, it’s expected that rates will increase.
However, because of the vaccination rollout protecting many older and more vulnerable residents, the increases in infections aren’t as worrying as they were in the lead up to Christmas.
So whilst it is still concerning, so long as people follow lockdown guidelines and isolate when they need to, the situation should remain under control.
